Dry Shade Slope

DRY SHADE SLOPE

The client needed a solution for a tricky slope along the north facing side of the house. This is the main access into the backyard from the front, and can sometimes be dangerous when walking or mowing. They wanted to remove the grass, and create a series of steps leading down the slope to a shared landing with the neighbors. The steps will be landscape timber back-filled with gravel for rainwater permeability. A dry river bed runs along the driveway near the top of the slope to help slow down the flow of water and improve permeability, as well as provide habitat for ground nesting insects. The plantings are dry shade tolerant and deer resistant with a few Montana natives to best suit the conditions.
