DROUGHT TOLERANT/ALLERGEN-FREE

This young family needed their outdoor space to feel more integrated with the flow of their home and their lifestyle. A larger patio and pergola and adjoining fire pit area create entertaining space for large family gatherings. The natural play area and swing structure will evolve into an arbor and planting area once their kid is grown. Several family members also experience severe allergies, and they were looking for solutions to both accommodate a more limited plant palette while also being drought and deer tolerant. Local Missoula area and Bitterroot valley river rock and boulders are used as mulch and accents throughout the planting beds, replacing the lawn in both the front and backyard. Bark chips and tree rounds bring in another local and sustainable element to the play area.
