Rustic Modern with Montana Natives
The family completed a remodel of their historic home in the University district of Missoula, MT, and wanted a rustic modern garden with majority Montana natives to compliment the open architecture and the family’s passion for native habitats and sustainability. A new flagstone patio with fire pit features an upcycled ski lift chair swing. Perimeter plantings feature a mix of fast growing evergreens for screening, as well as deer resistant varieties. A native pollinator garden provides a lovely focal point from the kitchen, as well as an inviting entrance to the studio garage. Raised veggie beds and an espalier apple tree take advantage of the sunny corner of the yard. And the lawn is a native seed blend of low growing drought tolerant grasses.
